Dr. Josh Boverman
Dr. Boverman (or Dr. B as he is affectionately called) is proud to be a psychiatrist and Medical Director for Wallowa Valley Center for Wellness. He received his medical degree from the Oregon Health & Sciences University in 1993, and completed his specialty training in psychiatry at the University of Washington and at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard University. He has been in practice since 1998. He has worked as a teacher, clinician, and educator in the Departments of Psychiatry and Family Medicine at the Oregon Health & Sciences University. He also worked overseas for the US Department of State, providing psychiatric care to Americans serving abroad in the State Department, the military, and other branches of government.
Individuals often meet with Dr. Boverman because they have symptoms like depression or anxiety, and wonder if a medication could help. Sometimes they wonder if their medications should be stopped, or adjusted. He also prescribes psychiatric medications when needed. Sometimes your counselor recommends you for medication management, to help towards a diagnosis, or to consider laboratory/medical assessment. When this happens, you will see Dr. Boverman.
Dr. Boverman prescribes medications cautiously, to make sure the side effects are not worse than the symptoms they treat. He believes that clients should be fully informed about their care, have control over their own prescriptions, and regard medications as just one tool of many as they seek the best for themselves and their families.
Dr Boverman joined our staff in 2014. He lives in Portland, so most of his work is done by telemedicine - using secure video conferencing links to allow remote audiovisual meetings. But, four times a year he visits Wallowa County so that he can see clients in person, meet with staff, and recharge his senses with Wallowa County sights and sounds.
